Awards and their criteria are:
SERVICE AWARDS
Awarded to the Chapter for the best single service project
Chapters should submit a written report on the project that
they feel is the best project for their chapter since the
last Section 74 conference. It should be noted if this project
was done for National Service Week or National Spring Service
Day; if a Youth Service Grant was awarded for this project;
or if the project was submitted to the National Service Project
Exchange. Percentage of participation by the Chapters'
members (pledge, active, and advisors) should be considered.
This award may be submitted electronically by e-mailing the
document to awards@section74.org.
Awarded to the Chapter with the best overall service program
Chapters should submit a written report on the service program
for a semester (Fall, Spring, or both) for their Chapter which
meets the following goals:
a. The Chapter Service Program reflects a balance of
all four areas of service, and
b. The Chapter Service Program set ambitious goals
and effectively meets those goals, and
c. The chapter Service Program involves a high percentage
of the Chapters' active and pledge membership.
Consideration should be made to chapters who program includes
at least one of the following criteria:
• Participated in National Service Week or National
Spring Service Day.
• Conducted a project within the National Program of
Emphasis outside of there work during NSW or NSSD.
• Submitted or obtained a Youth Service Grant.
• Shared a project with the National Service Project
Exchange.
This award may be submitted electronically by e-mailing the

Awarded to the Chapter who has an excellent service to Scouting
or Youth Service as part of the overall Service Program Chapters
should submit a written report service targeted towards Scouting
and Youth Services. This service may be for an overall program
or for a single outstanding project. Additional weight should
be given for a submission that the awards committee feels
will have a lasting effect.

MEMBERSHIP AWARDS
Awarded to the chapter judged to have the best rush program.
Consideration should be made in the following criteria

Awarded to the Chapter judged to have the best pledge program.
Consideration should be made on the percentage of pledge that
actives as Brothers.
This award may be submitted electronically by e-mailing the
document to awards@section74.org.
Awarded to the Chapter judged to have the best overall membership
program. Criteria for the award will include training activities
as well as fellowship events conducted by the Chapter for
pledge and active members. Submissions should include:
• Chapter growth and retention.
• Fellowship/Membership Activities. This should include
Leadership Development programs.
• Awards & Recognitions given by the Chapter
• Attendance at inter-chapter events (i.e. Conferences,
conventions, inter-chapter activities)
This award may be submitted electronically by e-mailing the

Awarded to the Chapter Advisor judged to be the best in serving
his/her chapter in the spirit of Alpha Phi Omega. This award
recognizes service of an outstanding level over a period of
time to an individual Brother in the role of Advisor. The
following criteria should be considered:
• Long-term service of at least three years.
• Significant participation in diverse Chapter activities
(meetings, fellowship events, membership events, service work,
etc)
• Working with other advisors such as in recruiting,
training, and Advisory Committee work.
• Communications with Chapter Officers and Actives.
• Contributing role in building chapter reputation on
campus and in the community.
• Clear demonstration of awareness of appropriate role
of an Advisor.
• Accessible and approachable, Caring and concerned.
• Foster maturity and contributes to the leadership
development of members.
• Assists chapter in keeping focused on larger picture
and blend of the cardinal principles.
• Reputation and achievements outside chapter and Alpha
Phi Omega.
Chapters may nominate one advisor for consideration. The nomination
should explain why this advisor should be considered, keeping
in mind the above criteria. An advisor does not have to meet
all of the above criteria, but should meet a significant number
of them. The specific advisory position (Advisory Chair, Faculty/Staff
Advisor, Scouting & Youth Service Advisor, and Community
Advisor) and how it is satisfied should be considered and
noted in the nomination. An individual may not receive this
award more than once from the same Chapter.
There shall be no limit on the number of "Sectional
74 Excellence in Advising Award" given during a sectional
conference.

MISCELLANEOUS AWARDS
Chapters should submit their scrapbooks for consideration
Scrapbooks should detail the chapter's activities over a minimum
of one semester.
If electronic submissions are made, they must be on CD-ROM,
DVD-ROM, or USB Flash Key; all media will be subjected to
a virus-scan prior to opening. Every effort will be made to
have a computer available, but no guarantee is made –
file formats should be standard Windows-based program file
formats.
A mathematical award. This is awarded to the Chapter which
brings the largest number of active Brothers and pledges the
longest distance to the Section 74 Conference. This will be
calculated by multiplying the number of actives brought by
the distance to the Section 74 conference from the Chapter's
campus location.
A mathematical award This is awarded to the Chapter which
brings the largest percentage of members to the Section 74
conference. This will be based on the number of active members
on the Chapter's perpetual inventory one month prior
to the Section 74 conference. Pledges brought to the conference
will not affect these numbers. The host Chapter(s) for the
Section 74 conference will not be considered for this award.
A performance-based award. This is awarded after the roll
call for Section 74 is completed at the Section 74 conference,
usually occurring at the banquet. The entire Section 74 Staff
in attendance will judge each performance. A "silly"
and a "serious" award may be given.
A certificate awarded by the Section 74 Chair at his/her
discretion to persons or Chapters who deserve special sectional
recognition. A certificate may be given to a non-member.
Certificates may be obtained from the National Office.
